What are you saying to yourself when no one is around? Are you belittling the mistakes you’ve made or are you encouraging the small victories you’ve accomplished on a daily basis? For many of us, the difference between success and failure is as simple as positive self speak.
When it comes to big goals, do you find yourself sometimes getting a bit hesitant? It’s normal to have these ideas that we get very excited about or to have that nagging idea that just won’t go away. Daydreaming about what would happen if those things were our reality is fun, but it can’t really happen. We’re not smart enough. Creative enough. Interesting.
We just aren’t enough of what people need to be to live that dream life we desire.
If you’ve had these negative thoughts associated with your goals, how much movement have you made towards them? I’m betting not too much. When we attach negative emotions with our goals, they are no longer attainable. They turn into what we’re not.
I’m not smart enough to start my own business.
I’m not unique enough to be a public speaker.
I’m not interesting enough to write a book.
It’s time to shift from that negative self talk to one of positivity. Choose to use language that builds you up instead of tearing you (and your dreams) down. These negative records we play over and over in our minds aren’t taking us anywhere but down. We all have goals, but it’s important to recognize the positive emotions these goals give you and forget about the fear or anxiety that may surround them.
Action step
There’s no other relationship in this life more important than the one you have with yourself, so stop belittling you. You are capable of great things. You wouldn’t be on this earth if that wasn’t the case. One of my most popular updates on social media is the affirmations. For the next few weeks, I want you to make two lists: one consisting of everything you love about yourself and the other of the things that you would love to do. Read both of those lists daily. If you’re having a bad day, read it three or four times a day. Keep it on you when you need a pick-me-up.
The purpose of this exercise is to reconnect with your greatness. This world can be challenging and make us second guess our decisions. But it’s not about the negativity you encounter; it’s how you choose to react to it. Don’t internalize every bad thing and turn it against yourself. By reading those beautiful words you’ve written about yourself every day, you’ve taken a huge step towards cultivating positivity in your life. Choosing to use positive language and affirmations daily brings your goals to fruition.
