Money can be an incredibly emotional topic and it’s unfortunate that many of the stories we’ve grown up with or been conditioned with only serve to support any negative feelings we have around money. Society teaches us that there is a severe lack of money, that it’s something we have to work tirelessly for, that the rich stay rich and the poor stay poor, that the banks are out to get us and so many more. Even if we don’t agree with these things on a conscious level, if our finances are suffering in some way, there’s a subconscious part of us that isn’t feeling good about our money. Ultimately, those feelings boil down to one thing; a fear of money.
Whether it’s a fear of spending money, a fear of having no money, a fear of losing your relationship, job and therefore financial security, a fear of debt, a fear of an investment not working out, it’s crucial that to heal your relationship with money and your fear of it, you learn how to alter your perspective. In this article, I’m going to share 3 key tips on how to do that.
I want you to put pen to paper and write down every single fear you have about money. Whether you feel it’s rational or not, a huge fear or even a fear that might seem insignificant and silly, write it all down. When you see things written down, it brings them to life and allows you to get more clarity on what’s going on internally. This exercise also enables you to come to a place of acceptance and this is extremely important. Acceptance of the acknowledgement about your fears, allows you to shine a light on them and actually
feel those feelings. The reason why so many of my clients struggle to resolve their fear of money is because they’re resisting feeling those feelings.
Our nervous system is wired to react to our thoughts. If we’re ruminating and worrying about money in some way, this causes an emotional reaction, which will gradually lead to dis-ease and anxiety. When we bury our feelings behind the fears, they build up and at some point, there will be a crisis. This crisis might be a job loss or a situation where we’re forced to make drastic financial decisions that only serve to confirm your fears.
We don’t need to wait until a crisis happens though. If we get clear on our fears and allow ourselves to feel them and accept them, it activates a different part of our mind.
I now want you to write down what the potential outcome could be that you never thought possible. I get it; this might sound like a crazy idea! However, you need to understand that
you are the architect of your life and
you control how your money flows. If you have a fear of spending money or a fear of having no money, you are subconsciously manifesting those fears externally in some way.
So, this next part is about taking a different perspective and looking at what the possible opportunities for your situation could be. For example, are you unhappy with your job but feeling tied to it because it supports you financially? Everything is energy. I talk extensively about this
on my YouTube channel so encourage you to check out my videos. When we’re not plugging into the world authentically, we don’t get the raises, promotions or projects that we want. If you’re not feeling good about how you earn your money, it will be reflected back at you in all of these ways and more. This then leads to feelings of anger and bitterness.
Often what I see is that beneath this anger is a deep sadness.
Perhaps you’ve been so detached from your feelings? If so, I’d like you to gently ask yourself what are you sad about? You might realise that you have created a life that you don’t love. Perhaps you feel sad that the life you created hasn’t worked out as you might have hoped? This happens to so many of us and I understand it can be a tough realisation.
If we don’t shift our lives when we get the red flags along the way though, this is how we call crises into our lives. We end up manifesting our fears. The only way to change this is to look at the opportunity. Using the job example, to start making plans to look for a job you love that offers you the things you desire.
If this all sounds good, but you’re thinking that you don't have the financial flexibility to leave your job to explore other opportunities, rest assured, this still applies to you. I like to tell my clients in this space, who often
have a fear of money due to debt, to allow themselves to be on the bridge. There is still opportunity here. It might mean taking a job in the interim that pays your bills whilst you look for your dream job or work on creating it yourself by starting your own business. The same approach applies to all parts of your life including your relationships and health.
You are the creator. So, let me ask you - what do you want to create?
It’s your job now to look for those clues. Follow the breadcrumbs! Follow what’s growing. Where can you see doors opening? Take time to really notice opportunities, people, conversations and experiences that are showing up. It’s incredible how when you go through this 3-step process that I’ve shared today, how the world beautifully and more effortlessly expands for you. This is how you can get in the flow whilst cleaning up your financial past. Live in the present and turn your old fear of money into one of opportunity, abundance and true fulfilment. It’s all possible for you in every part of your life.
