The freedom of financial security: choose to tackle your money issues

Julie Murphy • June 29, 2011

We’re in the thick of summer and all you can think about is a nice vacation, but in honor of the 4 th of July holiday weekend coming up, I want to talk about freedom.  I am a firm believer in the concept of choice. You choose to be happy. You choose to pursue the career path you want. And you choose to live a life of freedom.

Not freedom from literal chains or mutiny but from  anything holding you back. And I believe the biggest thing holding most of us back are obstacles – both physical and mental.

Freedom from obstacles

Will you face some stiff competition in your path to the perfect job? Will you have anxiety about entering new situations? Of course. But don’t let those obstacles ruin whatever journey you are on.

If your obstacles cripple you to the point of non-action, remember that you have a choice. You can choose to let those obstacles put a choke-hold on your dreams, or you can choose to free yourself from those obstacles.

To free yourself form obstacles, you have to face them head on. If phone interviews freak you out, accept it. And then, do something about it. Start making five phone calls a day to companies and ask an open-ended (but relevant) question about their product. This attitude can also be used with your relationship with money.

The freedom of financial security

Being financially secure is your choice; you have the freedom to tackle your money issues. But you must get to the root of the problem. If emotional spending makes your paycheck vanish every two weeks, ask yourself why. What’s going on in your life that is robbing you of the freedom of financial security?

Stop letting your anxiety about money paralyze you into non-action. Your freedom from money angst (an obstacle) means dealing with the deeper issue. You want a life free of financial fear. That freedom is a direct result of tackling the obstacles that are blocking your path.
