We’ve all heard the saying ‘money can’t buy happiness’ but if you get really honest with yourself, having a healthy relationship with money in addition to financial options that allow you to freely make choices can certainly make life easier. In this article, I’m going to look at the idea of money and happiness and how it can be linked.
It’s already being proven that prioritizing making money over time can lead to feelings of unhappiness and dissatisfaction. There are plenty of stories of multi-millionaires who have tirelessly worked to gain financial success, but have ended up burnt out, lonely or with a mountain of health issues as a consequence. That definitely isn’t happiness or an easy life!
The main factors that contribute to money and the joy you get from it are how you spend, save, and think about money. It isn’t simply about spinning your wheels to increase the number in your bank account.
It’s not going to make you feel good to dread every time you check your bank account and then see a low number. Prioritizing building up even a small amount of savings or reserve funds can make a profound difference and heighten your sense of security.
I speak a lot about ways to save money on my
YouTube channel so make sure you check out my videos. It’s important to save in a way that feels expansive. If you’re looking to work on building up your savings account or pay off debt, think about what expense you’re paying for now that isn’t aligned with a soul desire and if that expense is truly making you happy. If it isn’t, approach it like an experiment and see how going without it for a week makes you feel.
If you find it
does make you happy or makes your life easier, then you’ll know you can enjoy it without berating yourself and try the experiment on another expense instead. I can assure you, you’ll soon find ways to reduce your expenses
and build your savings account, leading to a rise in those feel-good emotions!
One of the main ways in which money can make your life easier is that it enables you to buy more free time. Whilst having someone to help clean a home might seem indulgent to one person, to another it can allow them to spend extra time with their children, work on a passive income project or just have a few hours to relax! Evidence has shown that having the money available to buy time as opposed to a material good can lead to a boost in happiness, wellbeing and it can lower stress levels due to the feeling of time-pressure being lifted.
It’s no fun not having money available to go and do things that will create memories. Happiness is linked to what experiences you choose to spend on as opposed to material objects. No matter how much stuff you have, there will always be a new gadget, car or piece of designer clothing that will quickly dampen how good you feel about what you already own. However, you simply can’t replace that feeling you got from a trip to Paris, a meal with friends where you enjoyed the most delicious food and laughed until 2am or seeing your favourite band in concert.
Having money to spend on memories that won’t depreciate – even inexpensive ones, definitely creates a rich, happy life.
Happiness and feeling good about ourselves often comes when we’re growing as people. Having money reduces that feeling of stagnancy because we can make investment choices that will either forward us in our skills, personal development, health, career or business. It can also help us to build real wealth and benefit from the satisfaction that comes with that. Life is better and easier when we’re able to make these investment choices.
Being able to contribute to investing in others can also lead to a huge rise in happiness. How good would it feel to be able to donate every month to a cause you feel passionate about or to invest in a business or project that’s completely aligned to a heart desire?
You can also experience this on a smaller scale. Try spending $10 on someone else today. This can be a donation, buying a friend or family member a small gift or helping out a stranger in need. I’m not suggesting you start giving away all your money, but notice how energetically it makes you feel when you give to others. That energy is powerful and as everything is energy, when you’re vibrating on that level, it’s going to come back to you. The universe has a wonderful way of rewarding us when we selflessly give to others!
Indeed, money can’t buy happiness but it
can buy flexibility, security, memories, time, the power of choice and the ability to help others. It’s how you choose to see, spend and save money
energetically that can really increase your feelings of happiness, self-worth and satisfaction.
