Last week, I was lucky enough to be at a taping for the OWN Network featuring Deepak Chopra. I’m a firm believer in what he teaches and I follow along with many of his mediations. One of the things he said really resonated with me, and I tweeted it earlier in the week. In case you missed it, here it is:
Think about your choices. Be conscious of your choices. None of us can escape Karma.
I absolutely loved this. We rip and run through our days trying to handle everything from meetings to conference calls to business dinners to deadlines, and that’s only in our work lives! Our personal and family lives are full time jobs with spouses and kids and friends and families to consider. Often, our financial life is just an array of last-minute decisions and debits we don’t even remember making.
We rush so quickly through our lives that we rarely stop to think about the choices we make. How often are you conscious of how much money you spend day-to-day? Better yet, are you conscious of how much you are saving?
In a world where we are encouraged to be faster, stronger and smarter than everyone else, taking a moment to think is seen in a negative light. But in just a few extra moments each day when we are allowed to consider our options, we could be drastically improving our quality of life: our health, our happiness, and our finances.
Action step
This week, when you feel yourself rushing through the day with little thought devoted to your actions, take a moment to stop and think. Allow yourself to be conscious of as many different events, feelings and transactions as possible. Think before doing, and devote your energy to financial healing through consciousness.
