When You Realize You’ve Been Flying With Clipped Wings

There comes a moment on the growth path when you realize something uncomfortable but deeply freeing:
No one clipped your wings.
You allowed it.
Not maliciously.
Not consciously.
But slowly… through compromise, silence, and trying to keep everything “reasonable” and “fair.”
Most of us don’t lose our wings overnight.
We give away feathers one decision at a time.
We allow situations that no longer fit who we are becoming.
We say yes when our body says no.
We keep structures in place long after they’ve stopped supporting our evolution.
And then one day, we feel trapped.
Stuck.
Frustrated.
Disconnected from our own power.
Here’s the reframe that changes everything:
If you allowed your wings to be clipped, you can also choose to restore them.
Awareness is not failure.
It’s the beginning of sovereignty.
This isn’t about blame of yourself or anyone else.
It’s about responsibility in the most empowering sense of the word.
Responsibility says:
“I see where I handed over authority that belonged to me.”
“I see where I stayed quiet to keep the peace.”
“I see where old decisions no longer match my current truth.”
And then responsibility asks a better question:
“What would honoring myself look like now?”
Sometimes that means renegotiating.
Sometimes it means restructuring.
Sometimes it means saying a clean, clear no where you used to explain, justify, or tolerate.
Growth requires space.
Vision requires altitude.
And wings don’t work when they’re tied to the ground.
If you’re feeling restless right now, that’s not a problem.
It’s information.
It’s your inner wisdom letting you know that the container you’re in may have been right for who you were, but not for who you are now.
You’re not meant to stay small to keep systems comfortable.
You’re not meant to dim to maintain balance.
You’re meant to fly fully expressed, fully resourced, fully aligned.
So here’s your reflection for this month:
Where have I outgrown what I’m still allowing?
Sit with it.
Listen without judgment.
And trust that clarity always arrives when you’re ready to honor it.
Your wings remember what to do.
With clarity and courage,
Julie
P.S. If this reflection is stirring something and you’re sensing that it’s time to restore your wings with support rather than doing it alone, I’m offering a free coaching experience this February to help you identify where you’ve outgrown old containers and what honoring yourself looks like now. You can join us here. Offer expires on February 24th, 2026.
