How to Change Your Mindset to Face Overwhelm

When you know you want to create changes in your life, it can be easy for that sense of overwhelm to take over. We can dream the big dream, which I’m all for! When it comes to the taking action part though, this is when overwhelm can catch us and stop us in our tracks of creating that life of Real Wealth – a profound sense of freedom in all areas of life that you hear me talking so much about.

The Power of Mindset

Mindset is a primary piece of working through overwhelm as you need to be conscious of your ‘why’, your greater vision. It’s being willing to embody a mindset of change, possibility and opportunity to identify and then
feel through the subconscious beliefs we have that are preventing us from creating the life we love. To accept the reality of where we are right now and trust that with a change in approach, we can choose differently.

The importance of spirituality (and spiritual practices that resonate with
you) also come into play here. There are so many incredible tools that can help us tap into the part of ourselves that we’ve been avoiding since the age of 7, when many of us have experienced some kind of rejection or trauma that we often unknowingly carry with us through life. This plays out through our money, health and our relationships.

Working through overwhelm therefore means adopting a mindset of exploration with ourselves. To
make ourselves a priority, get truly curious about our subconscious beliefs and to understand the benefits of spiritual practices and how they can help us reconnect to our heart, our soul essence and embody that on every level!

Then, we don’t need to worry about being overwhelmed because we know that each decision we make and every step we take to that life of Real Wealth is leading from our soul.

The Importance of Spirituality

You might be thinking ‘Hey Julie, you’re the money chick and you’re telling me to be spiritual?’ I’m not afraid to be bold in saying that I’m a disruptor - I get results and people often come to me for help with their finances after they’ve seen so many other financial planners. Together, we not only change their financial life - but create freedom in
all areas of their life!

My success in this field is largely down to me understanding and integrating the spiritual principles behind money and mindset, and helping my clients to do the same through my
Julie Murphy work. So why be spiritual? This is why! You can put all the strategies into place but until you’re doing this from a place of self-love and alignment, something will suffer along the way.

Meditation is one immensely powerful tool and the importance of spiritual meditation or getting into a meditative state to connect to our heart is the path to working through overwhelm. The practice can also look different to everyone. For me, I do like to meditate in the more traditional sense, but I also find walking in nature and doing puzzles an equally meditative experience. Meditating is about reconnecting to yourself and detaching from the chatter of your left-brain that might be telling you what you want to achieve is too overwhelming, that getting out of debt is beyond your capabilities, that it’s too late to find happiness in a new relationship….

Those beliefs go on!

So, get meditating! Find a practice that stills your mind. Taking time to deepen your spiritual evolution will help you gain an understanding of what you need right now in this moment to reach the next summit.

Let’s Look at Those Leaky Containers

So many times, the reason I see people facing overwhelm is because
they’ve created leaky containers, which stop them from getting where they want to be. This is where you’ll find money ‘leaking out’ of your financial buckets keeping you in debt, attempting to ‘keep up with the Joneses’ by living beyond your means or not spending, saving and investing in ways that are aligned with your heart-led financial intentions. Or, you could be financially caretaking for others such as your kids, family or friends.

When you see those funds leaking out of your accounts, I understand it can be overwhelming to know how to rectify that and perhaps feel like it’s out of your control. Let me tell you and reassure you now, it is all within your control! It might mean boundaries have to be set – with yourself and others and it will inevitably mean committing to yourself on an entirely new level. Shifting your mindset and being willing to accept the reality of these leaky financial containers is where the real change can begin.

This is when you start to adopt new thoughts and behaviours that align with the life you actually want to create and come from a place of pure empowerment! These are the benefits of spiritual practices I’ve spoken about today.

Making those changes won’t feel stressful or overwhelming because you’re doing it from a place of neutrality. The reason why I’m so passionate about the importance of spirituality when it comes to our money, is that spiritual tools shift your brain chemistry and therefore your mindset. You can make your desired changes to create a life you love from a grounded and heart-centred place. Your nervous system is operating in neutral, you’re not contracting or reacting and you can step away from those actions and situations that keep you in the suffering cycles of overwhelm.

Reset Your Money Energy for 2026 Every December, we all feel that pull, the desire to “be better with money next year.” But here’s the secret I’ve seen again and again after nearly three decades of walking alongside people from all walks of life: Financially wealthy people don’t just plan their next year — they energetically complete the one they’re leaving. They close loops. They clear emotional residue. They realign their energy field before they set a single goal. And you can absolutely do the same. As I share in The Emotion Behind Money , wealth is never created by logic alone. It comes from managing the emotions behind your money and understanding that money itself is energy. And in Awaken Your Wealth , I remind readers that energetic shifts begin when you consciously picture yourself stepping into a new reality, while compassionately acknowledging the one you’re standing in now. So let’s walk through the simple year-end process I teach my clients — one that spiritually, emotionally, and financially resets your money field for a powerful 2026. 1. Review Your 2025 Wins & Losses With Compassion Before you step into the new year, look back with the most loving, nonjudgmental eyes possible. I call it neutral observation . Wealthy people don’t spiral into shame when something didn’t go perfectly. They get curious. Ask yourself: Where did I expand financially this year? Where did I contract emotionally or economically? What choices were truly aligned with my values? Which ones came from fear, scarcity, or old patterns? In Awaken Your Wealth , the “Accepting Reality and Awakening” step of PACT teaches that awareness without judgment is how we break old money patterns for good. So breathe. Notice. Write it down. No shame. No spiral. Just truth. 2. Forgive Any Money Mistakes Here’s a truth most people never consider: Every financial mistake carries emotional weight and emotional weight blocks money flow. From my work in The 4 Spiritual Laws of Money , we know that your heart’s energy is more powerful than your brain’s logic, and intention is what redirects energy back into alignment. Forgiveness, of yourself, your past self, or others involved, releases stagnant money energy. Try this: Write down any money decisions from 2025 that still feel heavy. Place your hand on your heart. Say: "I forgive the version of me who made this choice. She/he did the best they could with what they knew at the time.” Forgiveness isn’t about letting mistakes slide. It’s about resetting your emotional money field so you can co-create something new. 3. Create an Energetic Closing Ceremony for the Year This is where wealthy people truly separate themselves; they honor the transition. You can create your own year-end ceremony using whatever resonates from your spiritual toolkit. Here are a few ideas inspired by the intention-setting and clearing practices throughout my work: Light a candle Symbolize releasing the old year and calling in the new. Write a “completion list” Include everything you’re ready to release: debts you’re no longer carrying shame over, relationships you’re energetically cutting cords from, patterns you’re finished reenacting. Burn or bury the list This physical act tells the Universe: “I’m done living from this version of myself.” In The Emotion Behind Money , we explore how inherited beliefs and emotional patterns repeat until they are consciously released. This ceremony is your line in the sand. End with intention Close with one powerful intention for 2026, aligned from your heart: “I choose a new flow of abundance.” “I trust that money comes to me with ease.” “I allow myself to receive the wealth I’ve been working toward.” As The 4 Spiritual Laws of Money reminds us: “The Universe responds to action.” Your ceremony is your spiritual action. Ready to Step Into 2026 Aligned, Clear & Empowered? If you’re craving deeper support with your financial reset, join me for my Emotions Behind Money Workshop in January. If you’ve been feeling the nudge to recalibrate your relationship with money, this is your moment. Let’s make 2026 the year your inner wealth and your financial reality finally match. You deserve abundance and you’re closer than you think. With love, alignment & a whole lot of possibility, Julie ✨
