Money motivation can come to us in many different ways and it all comes from our awareness surrounding our finances. For many of us, our bills and mounting debt can be enough to keep us motivated to earn money.
But if you are sick of being on a rollercoaster of lack in your money, then it’s time to look into how to motivate yourself to make money beyond what you need on a day-to-day basis. Shifting from financial scarcity to financial abundance.
In this post, I’m going to help kickstart this process for you.
And I’m here to tell you no matter what your financial situation is today you can find the motivation to get money and fuel your future wealth creation.
So, let’s get right into it.
Money motivation, just like any other motivation, is about the inspiration that pushes you to take action, it’s your dreams and desires. Triggering motivation to live a life that you love is a process, but it can happen quickly if you know the steps to do it.
Everything we do is psychology, and the science of motivation is no different.
Getting motivated requires us to be inspired to act. If you’re excited about earning money, you’re more likely to be motivated to put in the work to learn how to do it.
Inside our brain, an entire world of motivation is at work every single day. We are motivated by either reward or punishment.
For example, we avoid putting our hands on a hot stove because there is a punishment waiting for us—a painful burn. On the other hand, we may scroll social media for hours on end because we’re rewarded with dopamine hits.
To dive even deeper, these two categories are known as intrinsic and extrinsic. Intrinsic motivation is a spontaneous tendency to seek out novelty to explore our ability to learn and grow. It comes from within and isn’t prompted by outside influences.
Extrinsic motivation is the opposite. It is prompted by an external motivation perhaps a goal to lose weight or even to follow social pressure.
Now, we could break the science down even further, but I’d rather spend time discussing a few tips for how you can find more money motivation from within. it’s about building your wealth from the inside out. In the next section, we’ll do just that.
Here’s how to motivate yourself to make money today, tomorrow, and well into the future.
Set A Goal
One way to get excited is to set a goal and a vision.
What is it you desire for your money to bring into your life?
Maybe you want to earn more money so you can pay off debt?
Maybe you want to build generational wealth?
Perhaps there is a particular item you want to purchase that you won’t be able to unless you earn more money?
Whatever it is that is inspiring you to earn money should be used to fund your vision or goal.
That goal should be at the forefront of all the work that you do.
Use visual stimulation to keep this goal in front of you daily.
You could do this with post-it notes in your wallet next to your money or even a screensaver on your PC.
Put a visual reminder of your goal somewhere you’ll see it daily and watch your motivation soar. Again, it’s about increasing your awareness.
What once worked to build wealth is no longer applicable.
With the rise of bitcoin and the uncertainty of the stock market, many of us aren’t sure where to turn to start earning money.
So, I urge you to be open to new opportunities that may pop up in your direction.
Don’t get pigeonholed into using the same money strategies that your parents did unless you desire the same outcomes they had in their financial life.
Do your research and develop new personal strategies that work with your cash flow and existing wealth.
Another money motivation tool is tracking your progress. See how great you’ve been doing!!
As humans, we get discouraged rather easily.
It goes back to the science of how our brain works.
We are easily distracted.
So, make it your goal to keep track of your progress in building wealth. This goes in line with goal setting, but there are multiple tools you can use to track your progress.
Whether that’s an app or just plain ole pen and paper. Write down your dreams and goals and then when you reach a milestone REWARD YOURSELF! A reward is a strong motivator for the brain, so don’t skip this step. It’s the only way to release all that shame, blame, guilt blame, and judgement you have surrounding your financial life.
Part of staying motivated involves participating in a side hustle you actually enjoy. Taking ownership of your own financial success is an amazing experience—especially when it works. Remember, you are the creator of your life!!
What do you mean to create? And, if you have a hobby you’re really passionate about, why not monetize it?
Whether you love to write and could start a blog or if you’re just someone who loves to listen to a podcast and drive for Grubhub, there are so many different ways to start a side-hustle you like and improve your financial situation.
When you enjoy what you’re doing you’re more likely to actually stick with and keep earning money. So don’t be afraid to start that side-gig in addition to your full-time job. You might be amazed by how much freedom you can enjoy when you have a separate way to earn more money.
One of the most common ways that people lose their motivation to earn money is a lack of a supportive community.
Earning money is not easy. It requires dedication and focus. A larger community can give you the support you need to stick with your goals when you’re feeling weak to follow through. If you want motivation to get money, then look for a community in your area that can help you stay on the right track. Think of it like an accountability partner.
You can also just emulate someone wealthy like Elon Musk, Oprah, or any one of the members of Shark Tank.
