How To Make Positive Changes In Your Life for 2022

Wondering how to make positive changes in your life in 2022?

With a new year comes new opportunities to change the way we look at our lives and the changes we want to make.

But what if you’ve tried it all before and feel burnt out by the prospect of a new year, instead of excited?

Well, then you might need some help figuring out how to start making positive changes in your life.

Life is all about change, and if we resist it, get left behind.

Here are my recommendations for how you can make positive changes in your life in the coming year and beyond.

How to Make Positive Changes in Your Life

Invest in Yourself

There is no greater investment you can make than an investment in yourself. This goes for the time, money, and energy you put back into yourself.

No one has ever regretted starting a workout routine that produced results. Similarly, you can’t make a mistake by starting a meditation routine, or by getting to know yourself better.

Any investment in yourself is a good one.

This is the best first step towards a more positive life.

Commit to Learning

Building off the previous point, you should commit yourself to learning in the new year to make positive changes in your life.

Check out these books to kickstart your New Year off on the right foot.

Learn to Say No

What we don’t do is just as important as what we do.

What do I mean by this?

Well, sometimes we find our power by taking it back from places it shouldn’t have been in the first place.

Overcommitting yourself to a bunch of different activities is a one-way street to burnout.

Don’t fall victim to it.

Instead, start practicing saying “no” when you want to.

Conversely, if you do have many goals you want to achieve in 2022, take small steps to achieve them instead of getting overwhelmed by them.

For example, if you want to start meditating, make it your focus to sit quietly just for 5 minutes in the morning each day.

Taking these small steps might seem insignificant but it’s the best path towards success in positive change in your life.

Combine your ability to say no with your desire to change specific aspects of your life and watch your life change.

Take Responsibility

If you want to learn how to make positive changes in your life, you must take responsibility for where your life is today. Stop blaming your parents, friends, or other relationships for where you are today. Once you start taking responsibility for your life you have more power to change it.

Every choice we’ve made before has led us to this point in our lives. Be accountable for your decisions to start making better decisions in the future.

Rely on Your Support Network

It’s tempting to feel like you can do it all alone, but I can tell you, that isn’t possible. Humans are social creatures, which means we need others to weather the storms of life. The stronger our networks are, the less stress we experience.

If your social network is weak, then 2022 might be a great year to start building it.

Keep in mind the type of people you want in your life. Don’t settle for less just because you need a network. Think about the qualities you like in people and seek out individuals who possess them.

I also recommend finding people who are living a life more closely to what you want your life to look like. This motivates you to be your best and reach for your goals.

How Do You Make Change Stick?

Armed with a few simple tips for how to start making positive changes in your life, it’s time to turn your attention to how to make change stick in your life.

What’s Your Why?

First, identify your ‘why’. Why do you want to make this change? What will this change bring about in your life? How will it affect your future? When you have a powerful reason to stick with your changes and make them permanent, you’re more likely to experience the change you want.

Devote Yourself to Action

Another way to make your changes stick is to commit yourself to action, rather than achieving your goal/change quickly. Address the how instead of the what.

Track Progress

Validate how far you’ve come by tracking your progress. Create a process to do this like a checklist, spreadsheet, or even just a list on a piece of paper. Revisit your ‘chart’ when you’re feeling down about your progress. Getting a little boost here and there helps us stick with our changes for good.

Use Visualization

The power of visualizations cannot be understated. Even athletes and billionaires use this process to get clear on their goals. You should use it, too! Think about how your life is different now that you’re making changes. Imagine yourself doing the work it takes to live the life you want to live. As you practice visualization you will get clearer on your goals and be more motivated to stick with your plan.

Get Started

2022 is right around the corner, and there is no better time than now to start creating a more positive life. Take at least one of the tips I’ve outlined above to start making changes in the new year and remember, be patient with how quickly these changes start to happen.

You deserve to live an incredible life. You deserve to feel alive. Make 2022 one of the best years of your life by creating change within yourself.
