I often discuss the challenge of managing our own negative thoughts, which can be just like crabs in a bucket. Our own doubts and fears can cause significant harm to our self-esteem and hinder us from pursuing our aspirations. These crabs can pull us back down with constant reminders of our past failures and discourage us from making progress. It's important to recognize and address these thoughts before they take hold and prevent us from achieving our goals.
We may be our own worst crabs. And this has a big part in how we speak to ourselves. Our self-talk is the gateway to what our future could hold. So often, we speak things into existence. If we tell ourselves that today will be a bad day, then it most likely will be. If we say we can't go back to school to get a graduate degree, we'll never even attempt it.
So, how do you talk to yourself? About your body? About your job? About your finances?
Speaking negativity into the universe will only bring negativity in return. Cultivating inner and outer wealth can only happen when we start talking treasure instead of trash.
Here's an action step for you: take thinking positively a step further this week. When you have a positive thought about yourself, say it out loud. When someone gives you a compliment, thank them by repeating what they said to you. This opens you up to receiving.
Instead of "talking trash," speak only treasure into your life. It may feel weird at first, but keep speaking it into your life. Eventually, those positive words will turn into positive actions, and those actions will be the foundation of creating the life of your dreams.
Positive self-talk affirmations are one of my secret weapons in building wealth.
What are positive self-talk affirmations? In psychology, self-talk is believed to be a combination of conscious and unconscious beliefs and biases that we hold onto. It can be either negative or positive and influences our behavior in many ways you may not even recognize.
One of the first steps you can take to change the way you talk to yourself is by building awareness around what you're saying. This helps you start making the changes you need to take on your goals around money.
For example, if you constantly repeat negative affirmations to yourself about money, you might notice yourself saying things like, "I'm never going to have enough money to pay bills," or "I can never seem to hold down a good job."
When you notice that, you're witnessing negative self-talk in real time.
Another important thing to remember about negative thoughts is that our brains are designed to remember and hold onto the times we made a mistake or had a negative experience.
It's common to keep replaying these negative experiences, which in turn adds fuel to our negative self-talk.
On the flip side, positive self-talk helps us cultivate self-compassion for who we are and where we came from. It also helps us be more forgiving when we do make a mistake or experience a negative event.
Positive self-talk switches our narrative from "I can't do anything right" to "next time I'll do better." When we choose to learn from our mistakes, the way we talk to and about ourselves changes as well.
Here are some examples of positive self-talk:
Anything you can think of that is a positive affirmation for making money is a great way to improve your roster of positive self-talk statements
