Open Yourself to Humor & Gratitude

Julie Murphy • January 6, 2021
Some days can be tough. During the times that are most trying, it’s difficult to let go of worry, anxiety, frustration and sadness. To a certain extent, we train ourselves to keep our feelings of upset flowing. We replay endless loops of negative thoughts that keep us anchored to our problems. I know how difficult it is to look on the bright side, especially if you’re in debt or have other financial fears.

But that’s exactly when you need to keep yourself open yourself to humor and gratitude. Allowing in more positive feelings can shift your outlook and help you to make decisions in alignment with where you want to go, instead of staying stuck where you are.

Laugh more!

I laugh all the time – even on tough days. In fact, I am a veritable mirth machine! If anyone needs to find me, they can follow my distinctive laugh to my exact location. Some people try to stifle the sound of their laughter, but not me.

I let it all hang out because laughter is fun and contagious.

Some might see laughter as silly, frivolous, annoying, or even unsafe. For me, it’s a signal that I am living in the present moment, detached from the negative distractions of the world.

Whether it’s snicker, giggle, snort, chuckle, or guffaw, there’s nothing better than that light feeling that comes from a laugh.

And that light feeling has to do with energy.

Remember, you’re made of energy that’s constantly moving and vibrating. Laughter can shift dense or heavy energy and raise your vibration. At a higher vibration, you feel lighter in your physical, emotional, and mental bodies. You experience greater personal power, clarity, peace, love, and joy. It even improves your financial vibration and that can certainly make you smile.

The same is true for feeling gratitude, so I invite you to practice that too.

Can you remember the last time you took a moment to show appreciation? If you didn’t say today, there’s still time! Even if you’re grateful you don’t feel as lousy as you did yesterday, that counts!!

Finding appreciation in daily life, even when you’re upset, is as simple and quick as focusing on something that brings you comfort, joy or happiness. It could be something small, something big, or even a positive experience enjoyed by someone else. Your days are a series of choices, so why not choose happiness and raise your vibration whenever you can squeeze it in?

Life is truly a journey that none of us fully expect to unfold the way it does. It’s hectic. Full of surprises. Exhilarating. Devastating. And exhausting! As we’re rushing from place to place, moment to moment, consider opening yourself to humor and gratitude to raise your vibrational level and increase your energy flow.

Here are a few things you can do just about any time or place:

Remember a joyful experience that made you laugh.
Try to find humor in the unexpected, bizarre, or ironic things that happen to us all.
Seek out a new adventure like a yoga laughter class. Yes, that’s really a thing.
Sprinkle gratitude statements throughout your day, or before going to bed, write down five statements of gratitude.
Send a quick thank you message by text or email to others, or even to yourself when you feel the urge.
And finally, accept your reality and express gratitude for all the experiences you’ve had in life thus far because you would not be where you are without them.
